Maybe. Though I dunno why someone would randomly go kill a horse. At the very least, wouldn't you be afraid of accidentally running into the other killer?
Maybe it was meant to be a distraction? Although that would imply there's someone else out there who wanted to distract us from a murder that didn't involve them.
