[after much effort with his blurry vision, agni's out in the garden. his arm's fine now, at least, since brilith healed it.

it figures that he'd find agni where he frequently finds brilith.]

Are you here to look at the sunflowers, Mr. Kim?

[oathic]

Oh, Zenitsu.

Well, there's not much for me to look at. But some fresh air is good for you, you know?

[swordflash]

[that's fair. he looks around them, nodding with a small hum.]

Is it true that gods never change?

[oathic]

... You've been talking to Brilith, I assume.

[swordflash]

[he pauses. yes, he has.]

It feels like there's been a misunderstanding.

[oathic]

Do you think so?

[swordflash]

We shared memories that week. Back then, she blamed herself, but it doesn't seem like that's the only reason.

[oathic]

[if it's pre-awakening brilith, there's no misunderstandings (well, not on agni's end), because he knows everything about how she felt back home.

but he doesn't say anything, and instead waits for zenitsu to continue.]

[swordflash]

[back then, she blamed her pride. but when he spoke with her recently, there was no pride in her bearing. at the forefront, in its stead, was resignation.

is it right for him to be talking about this? maybe not. brilith is hurting so much, though. how can he keep quiet?]

What do you think love is?

That's a rather difficult question, Zenitsu.

[swordflash]

[is it that difficult even for gods to answer?]

I used to do whatever my girlfriend would tell me to do, because I thought it would make her happy. But no matter what I did, her sounds never changed. And in the end, she left.

[all seven of them.]

[oathic]

[perhaps it's even more difficult for a god to answer, given the nature of his existence.]

... Do you know what it's like to want two different things at once, Zenitsu?

[swordflash]

[of course, they probably left for other reasons. he's too noisy, prone to crying, and definitely not as attractive as most guys out there. but he sincerely thought that, maybe if he tried hard enough, he could effect a shift in those sounds of apathy.

at agni's question, he nods his head once after hesitating.]

[oathic]

... Brilith is the sort of person who would've locked away her true feelings and kept them buried underneath.

[he knows how she feels. even without insight, it's impossible to miss.]

What she wants are two very different things. Answering one means losing the other—and a promise is a promise.

[swordflash]

[promises are important. even so, what good is a promise that hurts someone?

he can't say that. he doesn't know enough.]

But something's got to change.

[oathic]

... Maybe. But I suppose both of us have lived too long to make the next move.

[as much as agni hasn't changed in millions of years... brilith has made no effort to either, to be honest.

and it takes two to keep a vow.]

Though if nothing else, she's held on much longer than usual, because of our circumstances here.

[swordflash]

[that doesn't make it sound any better. if anything, it sounds like brilith is struggling, and that doesn't sit well with zenitsu.]

Making the next move will break the promise?

[oathic]

Essentially, yes.

[swordflash]

It's been so long. Is it that impossible for things to change? She even died all those times.

[oathic]

Dying itself is nothing new to her... Even before, when times were happier, she was used to being reborn. Reincarnating endlessly and remembering all of your past lives—that was once normal for humans, and how their society flourished.

[though the nature of it was very different back then.]

For Brilith, her hatred towards the gods is one of the few things that keeps her going. It's a little unfair for me, of all people, to tell her to let it go.
